Anyone? What did you think? I am a photographer considering applying to this event as a vendor, but to be honest, I'm a little concerned. I love Chapel Hill and I think it could be a fun day with good sales. But...
I know the shootings happened after AppleChill, not Festifall... and I know that police presence was increased for last year's event...
Still, I'd really like to hear some first hand accounts from folks who attended last year (either as vendors, entertainers or visitors), and what it was like? Especially towards the end of the day & after the event was officially ended?
I haven't been, so I'm probably not the best one to answer, but...the trouble comes out at night, so personally I'd probably avoid the nighttime at the festival. I would have no hesitation at all during the day. And most probably wouldn't avoid the night either...but I would.
I was there last year. I was very disappointed. There were not many people there at all and there wasn't much to see or do. They had a few crafts tables, a few tables with info. about karate etc. and a religious singing group. The food vendors were pretty good and we spent most of our time there eating and drinking. I thought it would be lively and fun but it felt deserted. Plus it was very hot.
I was there during the afternoon. I don't know if it even runs into the evening. I thought it was just a daytime thing.
It's been going on for ages, and I think is very much like Apple Chill as far as the setup, etc.; if crime was increasing after the one, it's likely the same situation with the other. But I haven't actually been to one in over a decade.
The event runs from 1-6 on the Sunday afternoon, and yes Jdatlas, I remember it was really hot that weekend last year! (I was doing a show it Greensboro, and it was pretty disappointing there, too.)
If its still set up like it was when I lived there, the crafts and main part of the fair is on East Franklin St, and the hoods and troublemakers hang out on West Franklin, a bit away from the actual fair, since the roads are closed and most of the trouble element prefers cruising to actually attending the fair.
Assuming you parked anywhere but off W Franklin St, you'd not experience the crowd that's been assumed responsible for trouble and crime.
