I have an approximately 80 foot tall white oak in my front yard that I am getting removed. I have only gotten one quote so far, but the estimate was for $1600 for tree and stump removal and haul away. This seems high to me. Has anyone out there had a large tree removed lately and how much has it cost you? Any help would be appreciated!

I will try to find the name of the guy we used, but we had lots of trees cut down and the lowest quote he gave us was $300.00 for one tree. A lot of it depends on the size of the tree, the location, the condition of the tree whether or not they need a crane, how accessible the tree is and whether they can lay the tree down (versus cutting it in sections).
I'll ask my husband his name/company (everyone on our street has used him) and let you know tomorrow.

I had a tree removed by J&D Tree Pros J & D Tree Pros, Inc - Serving Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, North Carolina and was very happy, but it was a very small tree that did not require a crane.

About 10 years ago I paid $500 just to get a very large stump ground after the tree had fallen on my house in MN (insurance covered the tree removal, but not the stump grinding). Compared to that $1600 for a whole tree doesn't sound that bad.

Boy those white oaks sure look nice! Too bad it is dying...or I'd pay you to take it off your hands.

It is probably the stump grinding/removal that is driving the price of your quote. Get your tree guy to split out your quote so you can see exactly what you are paying for.

We had a 100+ ft pine fall on our house and the stump grinding was $600. We also took the opportunity to remove another 100+ft dead pine about 15 feet from the house. That was $900. (we didn't grind the stump...)

The quote was split up, the actual removal was $1400 and the stump grinding was $285. The tree itself looks ok, but something is eating it from the bottom, not sure what it is. The main reason we are getting rid of it is because it is about 6-7 feet from out house and limbs are constantly falling on our roof. To answer another question, we are located inside the beltline in Raleigh, close to where Peace intersects with Capital.
