Where can I find a Philadelphia style (or close or even somewhat close) Hoagie in the Triangle? I’m talking about the cold cuts – Italian Style Hoagies, not the cheese steaks.
Just kidding...but I thought I'd get it out of the way before someone came on here and recommended it being serious...and someone would.
Capi's Subs used to be in a gas station in Durham near RTP and made a good Italian hoagie. Not sure where they're located now or if they're even still in business.
You can find the cold cuts in many places. But, it's not about the cold cuts...It's about the Italian Rolls. There aren't any here. No Amoroso's & slim pickings on finding a bakery. There are many places that come close though. I know that the Lowe's food markets carry Boar's Head brand Deli products but is tough to find the Italian deli meats also. Good Luck in your search! :-)
there is actually a place in Holly Springs.....called Fat Philly's in the new Walmart shopping center off of Hwy 55. They actually ship in Amoroso's rolls and they also carry Tastykakes. I've only had their cheesteak (not steak and cheese as it is in the south) and it was excellent. They do have hoagies (not subs) on their menu too!
Their food is a little pricey (12" - $9.50, 6" - $6.50) but missing a taste of home, it was well worth the price.
Anyone know of anything closer? That sounds great....but it's an hour away from me! I'm in North Durham!
I just moved to northern Durham, too. There seems to be a lack of good "Yankee" food here compared to Raleigh. I'm looking for good bagels - Brueggers just doesn't cut it for me.
I hear ya. I grew up in S Jersey ~12 miles outside Philly. First thing I do everytime I go home to see family is get myself a hoagie. You just can't find that here!!
