Please help! I'm moving to the Raleigh area as soon as I sell my home in Md.
I picked out a home in Chasteal Trails. Now I'm hearing that this is in the area that is considered (the dreaded) southeast Raleigh area. When I visited the area I thought it was nice. Now I'm worried. The most that I can afford is low to mid 200's.
Would Knightsdale be better? Or should I consider Rolesville. I'd like a single
family home but I don't want a lot of ground to take of.
I welcome any suggestions.

THX,
MIKEJ

If your working with an agent, he/she should be able to help you out. I don't know anything about Chasteal Trails, but if your wanting to know how the area is, as far as crime, you can call police records at 919-890-3325. They will be able to tell you what precint that is in, and if their are any reports of crime in the area. If you haven't checked out Knightdale or Rolesville, I think you should keep all your options open. Nice homes in both areas. Good Luck and call police records.

Regards,

Debbie

MikeJ,
(BTW, love the name...) You're talking a price point that should give you several options, and like DebbieF says, your agent can help you.

Dude don't panic! Most of what you hear about southeast Raleigh is pure hype. (Not to mention concentrated into a few old rundown neighborhoods, none of which are really near your proposed home.) People get all flustered about places like southeast Raleigh, Durham, or anyplace that has a slightly higher-than-average number of minorities.

Sounds like a new subdivision right? Then it's obviously not in some ghetto or housing project. (In fact from the maps I saw, it's far from them!) So I wouldn't stress it. Drive around a little more in the neighborhood, if it makes you feel better, and just observe your surroundings. Decide for yourself if you like it....your initial instinct to move there will likely prove correct.

Nothing against Knightdale or Rolesville, but from what I see, this place you're looking at is at a much more convenient location. Good luck!

I hope this isn't inappropriate, but I was wondering what your race is? I'm hispanic and notice that you always bring out the good about Southeast Raleigh. I'm not trying to offend ANYONE, just wondering what point of view you are using. I personally decided to purchase in Battle Ridge and I close in 3 weeks so I agree with you.

I looked last night on the MLS listings for a home ITB but I don't know that I can find what I am looking for. I am hoping to buy a home in the fall near the downtown area (I don't mind bike riding to get around but the closer the better). I am hoping to spend $200k or less but not sure what I could get - if anything. I really like the Craftsman/Bungalow style but prefer something already updated. 800-1500 sq feet would suffice. Oh, and a garage would be very nice. If anyone has any insight I would appreciate it.

white...but i'm basically for giving all parts of the triangle an equal chance. and when certain areas like se ral or dur are badmouthed, i think it's a problem.

Thanks for your honesty! I was very concerned when I first joined the board at how people really dogged that area. For me I had to actually visit the area several times and I like it and feel comfortable with it. I really appreciate your view, because your bring a new light to this forum!
Thanks Again!

Thanks guys,
I feel much better now about southeast Raleigh but I'll keep my options open and look at some other areas but I love the home in Chasteal Trails.
The builder is Homelife Communities. Does anyone have any info on
this particular builder?

I'm actually working with Homelife Communities right now, trying to get a house for my client. I must say that the onsite folks are trying to be helpful but it took them a day to get back to us with a counter offer. My client has called one of their preferred lenders 3 times now. He has yet to return the call. I asked for another lender. I don't understand...homes on the market for 4 months and I can't get them to move any faster? My client wants this home so I'm going to get it done but I wonder if they are this slow in the beginning, what is going to happen later? Lucky for her...I'm persistent! Vicki
