If it exists, the sweet spot in Trinity Park that would qualify as the walk zone for Watts Montessori ES & Durham School of the Arts. Actually, just in the walk zone for DSA would be great, b/c you could probably get a choice program reassignment for an ES easier than for MS or HS.
I am also very happy with where I live now...River's Edge in northern Durham.
I'd say Heritage would be up there for me. We eliminated it solely because of the commute, but otherwise loved the community. Along with the commute, it's also farther from things like RDU, Crabtree, and Southpoint that went along with the "farther out" characterization, but we wouldn't have eliminated on those alone.
You didn't have to worry about a commute. Looking for family friendly neighborhood with good schools. price range, $420 and under.
This is such an open ended question that I don't know how to answer. First, we'd need to know "to where" are you commuting. We'd also need to know what size home you expect and what sort of environment you prefer (new/established/historic/urban/rural/suburban...etc).

I am assuming the first part of the question is assuming home employment, and as for the second, the OP asked where you would live, not where you suggest they live!

I agree. At a $420K price point and no commute (work from home I assume) I can think of several places I would consider, but what you are looking for as far as lifestyle may be very different than me. Are you looking to be in a new home or historic home. Do you want to be surrounded by trees or surrounded by entertainment options (or both)? I would need some more criteria before throwing out ideas.

While one can assume that it's about where "I" would live, the criteria about schools doesn't apply since I don't have kids. So, I am guessing that the original post was asking for advice on where he/she should live.
As for the commute, I can see your point regarding home employment. I initially read it as where to live so that commuting wouldn't be a worry.
In any case, I still think we need more guidance.
With a budget their size, there are lots of options out there depending on what sort home they expect to get for their money.
Ok, We are looking for a 'newer' home, maybe 5 years young or less. A little property, say 1/3 acre +, 4+ bedroom with 3000sq feet. We don't necessarily need to be surrounded by entertainment as long as we can get to it I'm retired on a pension and have young kids who need good schools.
