I drive back and forth from Durham to Chapel Hill via 751 to Stagecoach to 54 and have always noticed the big brick wall and 'Gone with the Wind' house, but recently have seen their extreme support for John McCain (e.g.-many signs). The other day to work there were about 30 signs on display. The next day, all signs gone. Then driving again today more 50 more signs and then my husband said tonight there was a girl with a shotgun and a German Shephard outside by the signs. Has anyone else seen this or know who lives there??

I too am wondering the same thing. I drive that daily as well. This morning about 8 am there was only the 1 big sign and 1 small sign. Yesterday there were maybe 20-30. Today at 3 pm there was about 50 signs! And the big sign is now lite. There was a woman in a LandRover out there when I went by and I really wanted to stop and ask what the deal was. But she did not look happy and I was in a hurry.

Darn! I had hoped someone had the skinny on this!! I'll try to give a "sign count" update in the morning. Hopefully I can go slow enough to get the kiddos to give me an accurate count.

I take it this is in an area with no county/ city sign ordinances? In Wake county, you can only have a certain amount of square feet of signs (20 signs would certainly exceed it). In Chatham or Orange (I forget), the rule is one sign per candidate per yard. This sounds a bit wacky!

I am reading from a lot of different listservs that people have been stealing political signs all over Durham. Mostly, I've been hearing about the theft of Obama signs. No reason as to why just yet.

There was a letter to the editor a few weeks back in the HS that someone was complaining about McCain signs being stolen but not Obama signs.

I figured both are being stolen.

We weren't able to get a sign count this morning. There were too many cars behind me and I couldn't slow down. I'll try to get a photo this afternoon.... IF I think I won't get shot. But if I hear "Loose the hounds!" I'm out of there.

i'm not sure what the address is on Stagecoach, but according to the GIS mapping most of it belongs to the good ole USA. Some say USA, some say USA State Attorney

I don't want to list the address online as I wouldn't want mine online. But I did check the tax records and this place w/ all the signs does belong to an individual. But I did see the other plots you are talking about.

Was driving by there today on my way home when I saw an elderly lady going up to the larger of the signs. I actually thought she was going to knock it over, but as I was just driving past it, I noticed a younger girl taking a picture of the woman standing besides it.

I do have to say there are at least 50+ signs on the front lawn.
