Yes, there are going to be wide spread layoff at Fidelity. I assume most of the layoff will be in Boston area as majority of the Vice Presidents are there. But there will be some impact here as well..

Times are bad. And this is just the begnining. We all have to tighten our belts..I guess it is time to start a new thread about the economic impact of the recession in the Raleigh area.

Also, the wild fluctuations have driven many investors out of equities and into insured deposit accounts.

Even if they have money, it's staying off Wall Street.

Mammalakn, sorry to hear that. Did you guys just move here recently with a Fidelity Relocation?

Luckily, my dh is still there, but who knows. Now we wait for round 2.

A good friend of mine just got the ax today at Fidelity in the RTP. He did get a severance package which amounts to about 7 months' pay and medical benefits.

Thank you. Yes, Fidelity relocated us from MA last November. Hope your family wont be affected by round 2.

Heard it was a lot of upper management.
It was mostly employees within the Principal, Director and VP job grade. Principals are not upper management though. My dh was a principal software engineer/systems analyst, an average Joe ... with a very average salary to prove it Severence + extras should carry us about 9 months, medical etc. till May. Plus he'll still receive the tuition reimbursement for his last 2 classes needed to obtain his masters.

Still, it sucks BIG time. As I mentioned, weve only been in NC for a year, so no real support system in place.
