I am considering a relocation around Memorial Day 2009 to North Carolina with my wife and three children, ages 10, 7, and 3. We have lived in Las Vegas since 2001 and my reasons for wishing to move from Las Vegas mainly center around Clark County’s poor public school system and a desire to live in a place better suited to raise a family. However, a big consideration is what type of salary I can get in the either the Triangle, Greenboro, or Charlotte area and I have no idea what to expect. Following is a little information about me.
I am a self-starting attorney who comes from an immediate and extended family that includes seven medical doctors, three lawyers, and a fortune 500 regional vice president. I was raised, and in turn raise my family, to have integrity, to work hard, and to finish the job. As a lawyer I believe in giving my client’s an honest opinion. A local judge routinely states in court that I inform my client’s what they need to know, not what they want to hear. My client’s have always seemed to appreciate this as it often times helps them more timely conclude their matter which in turns saves them money. It also allows me to sleep good at night.

I was first licensed to practice law in New Jersey in the year 2000 and then in Nevada in the year 2001. I have extensive experience in all aspects of family law which involves being in court many times of the week and often times every day of the week. I also have considerable experience in the personal injury field and some experience in general civil litigation, including in the federal court, and some experience in reviewing and drafting contracts. I have prepared for and conducted numerous trials.
I believe in community service and I’m proud to say that for almost five years I have been donating my time to a local father’s rights group by attending their weekly Tuesday evening meeting and discussing Nevada law as it pertains to their various family law issues (please don’t characterize me as only an advocate for father’s as my client base is comprised of both sexes). I have also coached and have helped raise money for numerous youth sports teams, and I am the Secretary for a local USA Wrestling youth wrestling Association.
I seek a position in the legal field either as in-house counsel or with a medium sized firm with a general civil litigation practice.
Any information about job opportunities, expected salary range, and/or referrals to a good head-hunter would be appreciated, as well as some information about the differences in the job market in the above stated areas.

What on earth does this have to do with anything? Are we supposed to be impressed? Congratulations?

To: Frogandtoad. Boy, aren't you overly critical. Your name is fitting, except I can't decide if you are a frog or a toad. I was just trying to let the reader know alittle something about me and my background. Take it for what its worth, but I am proud of who and where I came from and some people, presumably not you, might infer that successful hardworking people sometimes raise successful hardworking people. In my case its exactly the case. I won't bore you with the details. Further, since I also presume that you don't have any usefull information regarding the information that I seek I would kindly appreciate that you just move on to bash someone else. By the way, you can respond all you want but this will be my last waste of time responding to you.

It's pretty tacky to post what amounts to your resume on this forum. It really doesn't make us want to rush out and help you find a job. Seriously. And surely you've had experience with libraries in general (and law libraries in particular) and know how to research salary data and legal employment??

If, however, you want to persist with the self-promotion here, you might want to at least clean up the typos and grammos in your post.

Thank you for your reply. The reason I posted so much information is because I read a number of different threads in which other people were looking for employment and salary information and a number of responding replys asked for more information from the original poster. I don't mean to offend anyone or waste your or anyone else's time, I was just trying to get it right the first time. I guess, according to you, I goofed. Excuse me for wasting your time as I'm very new to this. All I really hoped for is for someone to tell me about the job market for lawyers in the area. As far as the typos, almost everything I do from home is while trying to watch 3 children and time is limited and I'm generally distracted.

One of the woman I work with is married to an attorney. He took the bar about a year or so ago and clerked here for a year while seeking employment. He is now working for one of the larger firms in Raleigh making about 125K.

Well, if you're not going to research this the old-fashioned way, with hard data from reputable sources, and want to rely on random strangers giving you their impressions, this is the place. You would do much better if you looked up some of the local legal organizations and talked to them. And if you don't know how to find lawyer groups ... ??

Thank you ljd1010.
Skaternum: You response is just wasting my space. I would appreciate if you would just stay clear of this tread. I don't need your sarcasm. I am interested in some random impressions and the kind of information that ljd1010 gave me. You don't know me, I am a hard working good person, so why your commentary, it isn't constructive. And by the way, my post was not like a resume it was like a cover letter, one that I could have filled up with hundreds of great results about the work that I do for my clients. I choose to tell a little summary about myself and for that I get your crap.

Meh. It's hard to respect someone who seems willing to make life-changing decisions based on crap that gets posted on a forum like this. This is a ridiculous way for someone in a profession like yours to get serious information. So you're going to get a smattering of postings about lawyer people know, which is not necessarily representative of what's really going on. But good luck with that. I really hope you'll do honest-to-God research into this. THAT is the whole point of what I've been trying to tell you.
