Well we are looking for a 4 bedroom/ 2 bath house in a family neighborhood. Looking for a nice place to raise our kids so of course we are looking for a safe family friendly area with great schools.
There is no commute as my husband has a territory of all of NC for sales.
I think both Cary and Chapel Hill offer a safe family friendly area w/great schools. Redistricting is something to consider with Cary. Was there a "feel" you preferred more? They are very different towns with very different "feels" to them. In my experience, someone who loves one would most likely not like the other very much at all. I don't think there's a huge cross-over in people who would enjoy both...

If you are able to adapt well to new areas, you have a wonderful choice to make between the two towns. I would think either town a great place to live.
There are fine schools in both.
We landed in Cary, but I expect we would be as content had we landed in Chapel Hill.
As far as housing goes:
In Cary, at your price point, with minimum 4BR/2BA, you have about 100 homes on the MLS currently to select from, ages from 1972 to new construction.
Square footage runs from just over 2200 to just over 4000.
A great many of these are in communities with pool and recreation facilities.
Chapel Hill offers 18 active listings with a comparable cross section of ages, with SF between 2175 and 3452.
The other question would be are you limited to just Chapel Hill/Carrboro and Cary? What made you decide on those 2 areas, and what else are you looking to get out of the area that you will live?

Well our number 1 priority is the schools. I had read Chapel Hill/Carrboro schools are the best in the state. I have a gifted son & read some about their "leap" program. I found Cary from these boards. Went to visit last month & I liked the polished look of Cary however I was concerned about all the issues with the WCPSS. Thanks!
I prefer Cary over Chapel Hill for the location. To me, Chapel Hill seems to far to one side of the Triangle, whereas Cary is much more centralized. I also get the feel that Cary is safer than Chapel Hill, but it may not be a big enough difference to be a factor for most. I would pick Chapel Hill if your prefer less growth, as they prevent the type of growth that Cary encourages. I prefer the growth, so Cary works for me.
