It appears that I am finally going to have to have my pension direct deposited into a local bank (cause the one I have used in my hometown for decades has/is going bye-bye.
Which are the best banks around here ? I am looking for the free checking for seniors, and the ability to use the ATM and write checks (remember them) without penalty, and to be able to use my $$ as soon as it gets to the bank..
I am acquainted with Suntrust but haven't paid much attention to the others
I didn't know anybody...I paid 10.00 to join 3 years ago....maybe they have changed since then...but I'm just going by past experience. My money is available as soon as I make a deposit. I can use any of their ATM's without a charge and don't pay a fee for checking or per check.
^ My mistake, chorne. I thought the point of credit unions (which usually have better rates than banks) was that they "limited" their membership and presumably this reduced risk. Nice to know that's not true across the board.
Credit Unions are a decent bet, I am with State Employees but like the name says you have to be, or be related to a State Employee. I have heard good things about Coastal Federal Credit Union. They have a list of organizations and companies that qualify to join.
Bank of America would be my pick for a regular bank.
Thanks for the responses.. I too thought that Credit unions were specific but I will check because I really like credit unions..Isn't BoA on the soon to be doomed list ?
Coastal advertises for members so must be easy to join.
I'm with State Employees and love it.
