OK all, let's not take this with a grumble and pay it like many folks up North.
Now that prices will rise, look over your bill thoroughly for services you really don't use and cancel them.
1. Premium channels you really never view
2. Services you were lured to by a "deal" that now are at full price
3. Unreliable DVR's that will now cost $3 more monthly
If we show TWC that raising rates in this economy will reduce, instead of increase, revenue, they may roll it back or stop the increases.
Let's not just bend over and take it!
I returned my DVR and went back to analog service.
I only watch HD programming and my DVR is absolutely flawless. I have no use for standard analog channels, but they come with the programming. I only care about channels 200 to 300, plus 42, as we don't yet have TWCHD.
QUESTION: If I have TWC cable basic service (NBC, CBS, ABC, FOX, PBS, CW and a few others) and I own an HDTV, when NBC broadcasts a show in HighDefinition, will I receive the HD signal and hence have a better picture, or will TWC dumb it down to be the quality-equivalent of an analog signal?
I can't get a straight answer on this from TWC-- instead they keep urging me to upgrade several levels, which I don't intend to do. The kids at BestBuy can't comprehend someone who only has basic cable service!
You can get HD over the air but unless you have a TWC HD box you wont get HD through TWC ... the upgraded HD box is free and you get the basic HD channels (they might give you all avaible HD for free for a month to get you hooked then charge you)
I would think it's incredibly risky for TWC to increase rates on a highly optional and thus elastic service such as HD. But, if TWC suffers too much, they can just get some bailout money.

TWC does not do contracts, the best they do is a 12 month promotional rate.

How about this, drop cable all together, get an antenna and pick up your programming OTA. Use a computer or an Xbox to watch Hulu and the like for free. Join Netflix and watch streaming movies on demand via computer or Xbox (or Roku and now some Bluray players) plus get DVDs via mail for $15 a month. Missed a show, pick it up from channels website. It's what I do and it saves me a lot of money and I do not miss one thing, sure I might have to wait for a series to release to DVD (like Weeds, Dexter, or Madmen) but I can deal with that.

I did this years ago. The big maple blocked out my sat dish and I was unable to raise the dish any higher (didn't want a lightning rod). Bought a cheap antenna that I can get some locals on, used it twice and realized how bad local (asheville) programming stunk. With my dish savings I got Netflix and haven't looked back.
Plus hulu and the other options (like torrents) keep me up to date. I miss watching CNN but since it's on XM I can listen to it then turn it off.
I recently agreed to a 2 year contract when I got my TWC DVR.
It has a 24 month rate lock-in and a $150.00 buy out.
Wow, they just stated that then, that is just plain insane to me. Another reason I will never go back to them. I will even be looking into changing the accounts we use at my work over to AT&T. In the past the most they offered (business and residential) was a 12 month promotional price agreement. It had no buy out options.
I would never sign one for that period for a service like cable or internet because too many innovations are coming. I also do not stand for bad customer service so I will not lock into a contract for them.
I stand corrected.
