Here are some examples from my own personal and recent experiences.

1. My brother had a 6 Franchise fitness facilities in the NW. All produced six figure incomes. He has lost 3 of them in the past month.

2. I ate locally at Bahama Breeze, it was packed with a 40 minute wait as per usual. Tried a few on my recent travels outside the Triangle, empty.

3. Vegas was like a ghost town, entire subdivisions boarded up and empty of life. Homes just like those in Cary, modern nice, but no life. The hotels despite offering free or $12 per night rooms, filled to less then 50% capacity. Casinos had less then 20% of their tables and slots open.
Mass layoffs everywhere in that town, people packing up their craps in mini-vans and Uhauls trying to get out. 3 years ago? It was a gold rush town!

4. My other brother is a life-long trucker. His company used to beg for new hires and offered him bonuses to bring in a recruit of over $2500, per head. Last week, they announced a hiring freeze for the first time in company history and a potential 30% cut in staff this spring. Trucking companies almost NEVER layoff.

Here in the Triangle, we still see the occasional help wanted sign, but they are drying up too. Cary is still chugging along, but for how much longer?

It shall be interesting to see this March's school board budget with they announced yesterday that we should expect MAJOR cuts

You are making me feel even better than I already did about living here. It's good to have this perspective. I do expect tough times this year here and absolute devastation nationwide. We can only bury the country in so much debt before it completely blows up. It's going to get to the point where nothing is left. It's sad, but it's coming.

Did you ever hear the old saying about a wolf at a door?

People are unemployed/underemployed here too. You must be doing good, keep in mind some people are struggling in Cary.

My brother who drives a truck, just sent me photos from "tent" cities cropping up outside LA. I think the media is keeping it quiet, for now, have not heard much of it on the news. There are three locations he saw, were it looks like refuge camps, people living in their cars, cheap trailers and tents. Soup lines and cheese rationing next? 1933 here we come! Will we ever learn?
