The wife and I are about ready to move back to NC and are interested in information on Wake Forest. We just bought our house in the southern end of town off Burlington Mills Rd. Although I've lived in Raleigh before I never spent any time in the Wake Forest area previously.
Looking for local suggestions on good restaurants, attractions and outdoor activities in the area.
I have lived in wake forest for about two years (well, two years in may) and we are native of the triangle but moved to wf from apex. So, we live on the opposite side of town as you, we are on the north west side, off of purnell road.
The first thing I would do is get a subscription to the wake weekly newspaper (I think it is only 26 bucks a year) it definitely keeps you up to date on the 'happenings' in town, the politics, etc. Last week they discussed that they are going to build a mall in wake forest and that five new restaurants are coming to town in the next couple of month.
That being said, one of my favorite activities coming up are the six sundays in spring, which are the first six sundays in spring they have a different band each week and they play music at the wake forest college birthplace (on main street) in the afternoon. The music varies from bluegrass to rock and roll. People bring their chairs and blankets, food and beer ( they do have the local rotary selling hot dogs). It is quite fun.
As far as restaurants go, one of our favorites is La Foresta, which is close to downtown, and they are closed on sunday and monday, but have great italian food (they give kids a little pizza dough to play with as soon as they come in the restaurant).
July 4th is fun at the high school, many people come out for it and they have activities for the kids in the stadium.
I have gone to the library a number of time, the kids like it. There is a great kids bookstore on main street (alphabet soup) that has a wonderful selection.
That is all I can think of right now, but let me know if you have specific questions.
we love the area but want some local help on these 2 towns. I will be working in Downtown Raleigh and want to know where to relocate for this job?---we are looking in the 200-250K home price range---
