In one of my small week long vacations to check out possible places to live I decided to start out in raleigh. I would just like to know what areas, clubs, etc would you recommend to get a good feel for the place? I'm in my early twenties, gay, and a liberal who loves music. Any adivce is appreciated. Thanks!

I'm married with one husband, 4 kids, 2 cats and a dog so I don't really do the clubs but...I've heard that "Glenwood South" is really the "HOT SPOT". Also...if you have the money...living in a downtown condo that looks like a loft is the thing to do. But be prepared to spend around $200,000 to $800,000! I still can't get over the fact that the floor is CONCRETE!!! Vicki

Well, for clubs you're probably gonna want to stick to Legends & CC. Both are on West Hargett Street between Dawson & Harrington Streets. Legends in particular has a more slant towards the 20s crowd...and includes a smoke-free video lounge ("The View") in the back section.
There's another place called Flex, if you were interested in a more "underground" atmosphere...but that's all I'll say about it here. LOL

Areas? To live or to hang out and see things?
For the latter, there are restaurants/cafes that are popular with the lgbt crowd throughout downtown. The Irregardless, Fraziers, Lily's Pizza, Moonlight Pizza, Cafe Luna, Porter's Tavern, NoFo, Third Place, Cafe Cyclo, Helios, Five Star, Humble Pie, Sushi Blues, The Rockford...are just a few of those that come to mind worth checking out.

To live...well, depends on price range and whether you want to buy or rent. (The cool downtown spots are not all as high as Vicki makes it out to be...there are more affordable options if you know where to look.)
I could give you more details on specific areas based on what types you're looking for. Feel free to send a private msg sometime and I can give you more info.
