This is a great idea! Although we won't be moving to Raleigh until July, I've already signed up for a few Raleigh groups on Meetup.com as a way to stay in the loop:

The Urban Triangle
http://socialnetwork.meetup.com/364/

Triangle All That Jazz Meetup Group
http://jazz.meetup.com/113/

The Raleigh-Durham Wine Meetup Group
http://wine.meetup.com/6/ (broken link)

...among others...

Maybe Meetup.com can be used to help organize this event?

Eileen,

That sounds like a great idea. With any luck we will be there by September. Hard to believe at this moment as the house is in disarray but hopefully everything will fall in place eventually.

I would love to be in on the get-togethers as well! My family of 4 will be making the move this summer. We're coming next month to look at houses and I am nervous/excited. I will be a stay-at-home mom, and my husband's job will keep him traveling a lot - no friends or family anywhere near (we're from Ohio) - so this sounds great!! I'll bring the mixer and ice!

This is such a wonderful idea
My husband and I with one daughter willbe moving in June
I really love the area of Durham where we are going to reside
But then I thought who do I know around here?
How will I make friends?
and then I came accross this post and realized that I was not the only one
Who ever cameup with this idea was a genius
Look forward to meeting up with new friends

Talking Best of luck to you !

This sounds like a really nice idea Please be extra nice to the people who moved recently from NJ. FYI: I just read this quote below posted in the NJ forum. Do you know who wrote that? It's kinda mean

"You might want to rethink moving to NJ. The people are not pleasant...come on you guys, do not lie to the poor fellow. The women are rich snobs, the kids are spoiled rotten and the men are just as bad as the women. Do your homework. Most people are fleeing NJ and moving to DE and PA."

My husband and two animal children (dog and cat) will be moving to Raleigh at the end of June in order to buy our very first house, yippee! We're bringing my mom and my husband's parents just moved there (cost of living is soooo much closer to actual salaries compared to Bay Area, CA). I would love to make some friends in the area and introduce my recently widowed mom to some new people. She hasn't gotten out to make some real friends in a lot of years and is worried about it. Everyone on here seems so nice, I would love to meet up.
