i've saved up some money and want to buy a small house or townhouse now....i work on glenwood around pleasant valley and want to be close to major highways, shopping (i like crabtree and southepoint)
i'm thinking somewhere around brier creek or glenwood although i think the glenwood area is kind of old with all the car and furniture stores.........i've also looked around the cary area along davis grow as well.....west cary around amberly seems a little out there and may take more time to grow....but i like these cary areas since it seems newer than glenwood but it's not as convenient to shopping etc
i'm single and have no kids....any good new or existing subdivisions you can recommend?
it has to have a garage and not older than 5 years max....oh and i'm not keen on living in downtown due to congestion and lack of shopping.....thanks!
Price: Prefer to stay under $225K

Reason: Price Range
Check out Glenwood North Townhomes.. They are very new & are in a really good location (off of Glenwood between Lynn & Millbrook), so only a few minutes from Brier Creek and the interstate. They are hard to see from Glenwood, but if you need a reference point, the turn is in between the large cemetery & the funeral home. Good luck with your search!
I have a couple of friends who live in Amberly in West Cary. Both bought townhomes for less than $200K and they're lovely. Amberly is less than 10 minutes from Southpoint!! Straight shot on 751, no highway! It is also conveniently located near Rt 540/40. I would definitely check it out.
Pulte homes in the Creekside at Tryon Village off Walnut Street in Cary put you very close to Crossroads, Tryon Village, and a quick hop to US1 at I40.
Start at $225,000.
Bill Clark Homes has built Bryarton Village Townhomes, off Tryon Road, Raleigh, and they go for up to $200,000. Five on the market, with the last of the brand new ones, under $190,000 with one stall garage.

Glad to see this post meanieme. I'm househunting as well, so this helps me out also. Just as an FYI, we checked out the Pulte homes in Creekside at Tryon Village that MikeJaquish was talking about, and they have basically two sets of townhomes going up there. One set is $190K-$210K, the other is nicer and starts at $225K. They're three-storied townhomes with garages, 1700 sq ft. +. I thought they were nice, we're still considering them.
Thanks all for the feedback. I've looked at West Cary including Amberly. My only problem was it seems out in nowhere now and not a lot of shopping built up yet and kind of far from my work on Glenwood and Downtown Raleigh. For example, I'm not sure what the most direct route to Downtown Raleigh from West Cary would be. Seems like a lot of cutting through Cary unless I go up 540 and then down Glenwood.
The Crossroads area is not bad location wise. I passed by Creekside before. But the congestion along 440 and 40 hmm don't know.
Oh are there townhomes in subdivisions with more of a neighborhood feel like walkable, maybe mixed in with houses (for example Long Lake, Twin Lakes). I prefer these more than strict townhome subdivisions where all they have are a few townhome units, no clubhouse or pool, and not very walkable within the neighborhood. Reason is I have a dog too that I'd like to walk around the neighborhood.
Consider Shiloh Grove in Morrisville, by Standard Pacific.
$150,000 and up.
Also, Church Street Townes in Morrisville, starting at about $180,000 with one stall garage and granite. By Poythress Homes.
Church Street Townes is right on the edge of the newly developing Morrisville Town Center. Walkable area that is starting to develop some and near daily shopping options, with driving access to lots of stuff.
