This Old House has listed East Durham as one of the "Best Old House Neighborhoods" in the South for 2009.

East Durham, North Carolina | Best Old House Neighborhoods 2009: The South | Photos | Home & Real Estate | This Old House

I know there have been people interested in the area and thought this was a great article to bring recognition to a neighborhood that is slowly changing for the better. There are some really great bungalows and victorians in a convenient part of town. I can't wait to see how the neighborhood turns out in the next few years.

They are just going to need a 200k budget to restore this house to it's former glory now

I love that show mostly because they have these massive projects with massive budgets.

I know that there is a problem with crime in East Durham, but I always hate to hear that a neighborhood is changing for the better. No offense meant to the OP. I love beautiful old houses, but usually that phrase means pushing the poor and/or minorities out of the neighborhood. I wish we could find a solution that would let neighborhoods improve while giving existing residents a chance to stay there.

I would simply like to see the homes fixed up a bit and it be returned to a safe neighborhood. The crime in that area is pretty bad and for people to come in to rehab them into a nice friendly and family oriented neighborhood would be great. A friend of mine grew up on Driver St. when he was little. My how things have changed!

I would like to see it stay at an affordable price range. It would be great for those who are less fortunate to stay in their neighborhood and have a sense of pride in it. Maybe some of those who are buying in the neighborhood could be good neighbors and help those who are less fortunate out. I would hate to see a bunch of investors come in and simply flip each house in the neighborhood. I would also hate for the crime to increase and the homes further deteriate.
