haha, i looked into north ridge and a very elderly woman answered the phone. I figure it's a club for seniors.
You claim to be from Raleigh originally, and had never heard of North Ridge Country Club? It's been here since the 1960s
AND, you judge a place by the person who answers the phone
NRCC is one of the older country clubs in the area. I didn't realize that an "old" receptionist equated to being a "club for seniors", but whatever!
The Capital City Club and most country clubs are generally places where businesspeople wine and dine their clients; they at least used to be very exclusive, "old money" places and as someone says, by invitation only (so you'd better be on the right section of the "Social Register" to even think about getting an invitation to most such places) but perhaps things have changed.

Why does the fact that someone is from here have to mean that they've heard of every country club in the area? Really, is everyone born here expected to have a full encyclopedic knowledge of every business and amenity in the area?
(BTW, I've been here about 15 years and I've never heard of the place either.)
I'm sorry, I was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth, so no I'd never heard of North Ridge before doing my recent research.
And I judge North Ridge Country Club from what I've heard from others. The receptionist simply confirmed the fact.
I'm meeting with a member of the Capital City Club tomorrow following the advice of the kind ppl on this forum and some of my friends. I think I can manage being on the right section of the Social Register. I went through worse in college.

Reason: mistake
I'm curious to see what your impression is of the Capital Club and the Cardinal Club. My wife and I recently joined some friends for an event at the Cardinal Club. We had a nice time and met some very friendly people, but I left feeling that most of the people that are members were in the 40+ range. My wife and I are in our mid thirties and I think we were the youngest people in attendance that night. Perhaps there are more younger people who are members but simply were not there on that given night.

I'll let you know how it goes. The membership is supposedly 1/3 young executives (40 or younger) but this is for the capital city club. The Cardinal Club also has a young exec branch. Perhaps it was just the event that you and your wife attended, both clubs combined appear to have a significant # of younger members.

That is probably exactly what it was. Like I said, I've only been there once so I don't doubt the group has many others who simply were not a part of that event. Good Luck and enjoy the view!
North Ridge Country Club has close to 1000 members, and 36 holes of golf. While there is a older section of membership, the club has members of all ages and a good deal of very connected and high powered local business persons and professionals. I certainly don't think you can pass judgement on one of the area's premiere private clubs based on the fact that an 'elderly' woman answers the phone.
Comparing Capital City Club and Cardinal Club to the areas private country clubs such as North Ridge, Carolina CC, Prestonwood, etc. is not an 'apples to apples' comparison- very different membership demographics.

Capital City Club is small but well maintained. The staff are incredibly courteous and friendly. The members are down to earth and conversational. The food wasn't all that great but I'm sure that other days would yield different results. I'm looking forward to visiting the Cardinal Club to compare.

I've already past judgment. The golf clubs are not for me.
