There are a lot of people inside and outside the Triangle who complain about nothing being walkable. I typically find that these are the people who are always in their cars.
The same is true for the people who say that there isn't anything happening in DT Raleigh or Durham. You can usually find these folks in a strip mall chain restaurant nowhere near the city centers.

Here's my simple advice...
If you want a walkable environment, get out and walk.
If you want a vibrant downtown, go there and participate.
Be the person who makes it happen!
