To be completely honest, I never actualy moved to Raleigh but I sure love the area.

Our youngest son moved to Raleigh five years ago to accept a position with IBM. Numerous yearly visits from Michigan to Raleigh convinced me this is a great area. I was able to secure two job offers from Raleigh employers during the winter of 2007/08, and we found a house that my wife really loved, but risk aversion and other factors caused me to decline both offers. Six months later the economy tanked, 6 months after that both employers started shedding jobs, so maybe I made the right decision in hind-sight.

Our oldest son moved to DC, only 4 hours from Raleigh, the same week in January 2009 the youngest got laid-off by Big Blue. Not being able to find another job, the youngest is relocating to Cambridge MA where he has been accepted into Harvard's post baccalaureate pre-med program.

So, the last weekend of August will be our final visit to Raleigh as we help him move North. Very sad in a way, even the excitement of having a Harvard scholar in the family can't erase it.

Raleigh is a great city, the Raleigh city-data forum is a great site! The DC forum is geared too much to tourists and the Michigan forum is horribly dreary.

My best to all of you!

Just because the kiddos are moving doesn't mean you can't come visit. Y'all come, you hear!

MI-Roger, best of luck to you and your family! I enjoyed reading your City-Data post.

Due to an assignment change in work I to will be leaving the area for a year possibly permanently. After living here 5 years it will be tough but its back to upstate NY so its really like going home again! Maybe one day we will moveback.....who knows!
