The ole "hot bunking on the battleship" pitch didn't work for you, huh?
No, I didn't even try
We went to Charleston on our honeymoon (hence may recommendation that it be considered for a romantic getaway). After spending a day at Patriot's Point my bride still reminds me from time to time exactly how many decks are on the Yorktown because we visited every one ...
I used to live in Wilmington and I agree that would be a great overnight trip. Great places to stay, wonderful restaurants, grab a latte in the morning and head to the beach for a sunrise, and later, a cocktail at Elijahs or Pilot House as the sun sets over the river......oh how I wish I was back there!
The only thing that I could think of that is not beach or mountains is the Umstead in Cary or The Ritz just opened in Charlotte. The historic part of Wilmington is not near the beach and nice. Someone mentioned Colonial Williamsburg which is nice also. Good luck.
We went to Wilmington this weekend, had a great time. Lots to do surprisingly. They seem to have a few festivals; we went to RiverFest. I fully support the notion of going there for a weekend, it's got alot of chick appeal (hope that didnt sound sexist). It took us 2.5 hours from south Durham.
wilmington is nice. also, ocracoke. i spent a week there in November a few years back--went sailing at sunset--it was surprisingly nice!
