If you do go to Jordan Lake, you could always stop in downtown Apex on your way back. My parents and sister really enjoyed it when they came to visit.
I've driven through DT Apex many times and I've always wanted to walk around but never have. Same goes for DT Cary although I have stopped to eat there before.

That's why it's good to have visitors from out of town - you finally go to see the places you've been meaning to visit!
If I were you I would seriously take them to the giant halloween party on Franklin St. in Chapel Hill on Saturday. That is really the funniest and most memorable thing you could do. Its pretty tame and not crowded until very late, like after midnight - so just clear out before then. I promise they won't be the oldest people there!

I already have plans for Saturday night so that won't work.
Big Ed's downtown for breakfast or lunch. Then take them to walk around the capital. If you go to Southern Seasons, which is a great suggestion, I'd go the back way, into to Durham area on 751, the drive will be beautiful with the trees turning and the going over the water.
if they like peaceful places...drive down to Southern Pines for the day, tour the town, cute antique and Christmas shops, and, have tea at the Inn in Pinehurst. The towns are side by side.
I recently took some company on the Raleigh Trolley Tour and we did the Mordecai Historical Park also. I really enjoyed it.
