I was curious what to do with all my leftover candy and I saw an article about a dentist in Wake Forest who was going to donate to Treats for Troops. But then I read that that organization shut down this year. So I'm wondering if anyone knows where I can send or take all this candy - I really like the idea of sending it to the troops!

Not to be a total downer, but I throw the excess away. I know that good money was spent on it, but I consider it a sunk cost. The amount of candy and sweets that we are exposed to from Halloween-Thanksgiving-Christmas/other holidays-Valentines-Easter baskets, it's just disgusting, in my opinion.
And, I just saw a head line about the troops in Iraq developing weight problems!
I think it's normal to feel like you want to do something with the candy and I have gone through the same thought process but I have never been able to think up any person or group of people who would benefit from eating it . .
Right now I am "thinning out" my son's candy by throwing away a few pieces each night, keeping all his favorites, of course. He is only three and not that into it, so it's OK. I won't do that when he is older. I'll have to come up with a better solution -- maybe just let him gorge himself for a few days and then toss the rest . . or trade the candy.
Anyway, I have tossed lots of candy in the dumpster and it is a great feeling!!
Sorry to be so long-winded and again, don't mean to sound too negative, either.

Great idea, by the way.
This is fantastic! A place to send Halloween candy AND all those Beanie Babies I collected in college.
Actually, the candy is not always for the troops. They use it when they go out on patrol. They befriend the children in their area.... the kids give them information, usually on where to avoid IEDs.
Chapel Hill Pediatric Dentisty and Orthodontics has sent candy to the troops in past years. I am sure they would love to have it.
