Great question! I'd love to know what the history is of this as well. I live right down the road from it and always see it "decorated" for various holidays. It's a little kooky but always puts a smile on my face.
ooo this has to be added to my thread Weird Places And Things To Visit In North Carolina
If you can take pics of it that would be great!
or I will but not til next summer nearest intersecting roads or gps coordinates would help alot
thanks
It's about a half mile north of that on the right hand side near the entrance to Shinleaf Recreation Area and before the New Light Rd. intersection w/Ghoston Rd.

oh, that cow can make my day. I did stop one day when someone was sitting on the porch of the home closest to New Light. The "cow" officially belongs to the neighbor with the horses but the simple story is that the two neighbors take turns dressing it up and that's about it. I take a picture of the cow everytime it changes costumes. My favorite so far has been the fins/swim towel this past summer and right now the cow is dressed for thanksgiving with his hat and cape. Christmas is here so our friend will be changing outfits very soon. Doesn't it just make you smile when you pass by?
I hope a photo will show up. I vaquely remember hearing sometime back that the cow that sat on top of the "Car Shop" on Peace Street had showed up again somewhere around Raleigh after it closed. The Car Shop was a very popular drive thru convenient store in the 1970's. They sold tons of smokes and beer there. Just a hunch about that, and I could be wrong
We first saw it when we were house-hunting. Every time we came across it, we knew we'd been on that road before. Now we see it all the time because we've chosen to build in a subdivision further up New Light. Every time we pass it, hubby and I say to each other "why?" (is the cow there, etc.), so I thought I'd ask this very helpful forum. And yes, it makes us smile--especially after I discovered it had different outfits for the season. Loved his Halloween costume.
Do they mind if someone pulls over to take its picture? If no one posts one before we get out there again in another weekend or two (haven't broken ground yet on our construction), I'll try to remember my camera and take one.
go ahead and take your pictures . . my husband has seen people stopping and I've taken a few. Oh, Labor Day was cute too . . construction helmet...tool belt..priceless.
