Just saw it on TV Such a shame. It is a beautiful building. I just drove around that traffic circle a few months ago and thought the downtown was so charming.
I'm just down the road and it's just so heartbreaking. We're hearing it will pretty much be a complete loss, and there was so much historical documents and memorabilia inside. A very sad day for Pittsboro...
It's really too bad this happened. Since moving to Raleigh, I've gone to Pittsboro three times just to have lunch or hang out. Every time I've gone to look at the courthouse. It's never been open when I was there. I made my partner look at the statue of the Confederate soldier out front, because I wanted him to know something about southern history.
Does anyone know how bad it is? Is it completely gutted? When I saw the pictures on one of the news reports, I thought some areas didn't look as damaged as the rest.
This is on CNN's top stories, because apparently John Edwards' sex tape was being kept there. It survived... no mention of the courthouse's historical significance.
