Okay, maybe I need to be more specific...sorry. I am looking for a community that has 1 acre estate like properties that are between $1m-$3m. The job situation is not an issue for us. We are coming from the McLean/Great Falls area in Northern Virginia (maybe that helps) and are looking for a community feel but with enough land for our kids and dog to play outside. When I say, "Good Schools" - I mean schools that test within the 90%+ on test scores. I was wondering specifically about neighborhoods within the different cities as well the descriptions of the cities themselves. I was looking in MacGregor Downs in Cary but I think the HOA's may be a bit more restrictive than I am use to (gathering from the posts).

hi! I am not a native but lived here for yrs. You might want to ck out some other "considering moving here" threads...there are loads of them on this site and most address the same question as yours. And, they include comments from locals about most of the towns you mentioned. Locals would be Poggy Woggly, Francois, IamIshra.

Happy reading

People like to overstate the HOA situation. It varies by community, but I doubt it is more restrictive than you are used to seeing.

Considering where you are coming from, you would probably like MacGregor Downs. It has a similar look and feel to the area you are in. You might also want to look at Meadowmont in Chapel Hill, particularly if you are interested in building a new home.
