Another small, locally owned store is Traditional Jewelers in Lake Boone Shopping Center (between Rex Hosp. and the beltline). The owner is always there, will be the one who waits on you, and is SO great. They do wonderful repair work too.

And after you can go to Chubby's and get a taco to celebrate!

Jolly's & Bailey's are GREAT! Never been to CMI, so I can't comment on it. Just be aware that Diamonds Direct Crabtree is a rip off; diamonds manufactured/mined out of Israel don't have as tough or strict grading guidelines as every other county. SO that means while you're paying for a "D" quality diamond from there, you're not really getting what you think you are: everywhere else that "D" diamond will appraise as an "F" or "G" quality (or worse). Just do your homework before you buy!!

I have been told by people that work at some of the jewerly stores, including the ones you have said, that they buy their diamonds from the same exact people as diamonds direct. Maybe they don't buy the same place or orgin, but the buy from the same people. So I am not sure how true that is, especially if you buy has been rated from a company that independently rates and appraises them. I am not sure how the origin matters when you have places like GIA, AGS, etc rating them, unless it is some other place doing the ratings

Atalier N is a wonderful shop in Durham with a really great Jewelery designer who owns/runs the shop. My fiance has bought all of my jewelery there and I love every piece. His website is: Atelier N Fine Jewelry

While no expert on this stuff, being from Europe I am familiar with Israel's part in the diamond trade as well as Belgium and of course Africa. I've never heard of diamond's being mined out of Israel. It's usually a stop off for grading, sorting, maybe cutting? Although Antwerp was that too as Brits used to go over there to get a deal on loose diamonds. My friend got a stunning diamond for her engagement ring this way.

As for grading, I know nothing. But I think someone got their facts mixed up when they were telling you that bad diamonds come from Israel.
