I'm writing because I am trying to find a good and fun dance school for my daughter in Cary or Holly Springs or Apex. She has taken ballet & tap and is ready to expand to more classes. I'm looking for a dance school that is community oriented that participates and dances in recitals, community events and volunteers to dance at retirement homes. So far the dance schools I have found seem to be very formal ballet academies and conservatories. I'm looking for something less formal. My daughter is seven. We are looking for her to learn the fundamentals, but also to have fun while doing so not at an overly formal status minded school. Any info would be great! Thanks
I took my 5 yr old to Holly Springs school of Dance last year. It was ok, a little clique-ish tho. I think she was a little bored, so we switched to Sonshine Gymnastic, also in Holly Springs, and she loves it! I know lots of people really like HS School of Dance, so if your daughter loves dance, she might do well there...it was a nice program and they do the xmas parade and a couple of performances a year.
Why not try Irish dance? I'm in CA and take it but have been looking into continuing in the Raleigh area. It looks like there are two schools in the area that I can find Inis Cairde and Danny Tighe. Irish dance is like a combination of ballet and tap - soft shoe can be slow and graceful or fast and fun. Hard shoe is always entertaining and great fun to learn. And schools typically do a lot of performances (obviously around St. Patrick's Day) but also year round for weddings, senior homes, etc. And there are competitions that you can choose to take part in or not. Depending on how far you want to travel you can go to between 2-3 a month or a year... it's your choice! Anyways, PM me if you have questions about Irish dance, but aside from that good luck in your search!!
I like so far "arts together" in Ralleigh and 9th street Dance in Durham best for children. I sub there once in a while and they teach children in a very nice, fun, creative way without the main focus on the result ....
