I saw that today too. Where is Cary in relation to Charlotte? asheville was on another list as well. I guess thast is a good thing I mean NC is not that big and there are 2 or 3 cities on these lists.
You can go to the webiste and compare Charlotte to the top ten, it appears their education is down, crime high but you have to read how they come up with these figures and statistics...
They note NYC has the third lowest crime rate among the 25 biggest cities in the U.S.
If it were a country, N.Y.C. would have the 17th-highest GDP in the world, ahead of Switzerland.
Uh oh. I lived in Seattle during the period it consistenly made "Places Rated" and "Money Magazine"s top 10 list. That was a number of years ago and it's a totally different place today.
Even here in MA, the year after we moved into our town, our school district was voted #1 in MA and the houses started selling like hotcakes.
A few years ago, we were looking at a possible relo to Minneapolis and Eden Prarie and the entire area around the lake (can't remember the name of it for the life of me now) was high on our list. I remember the real estate agent telling me I'd pay 2x as much for a house near the lake than out in the flatlands and here I was, coming from MA where even 2x the price was cheap!
Yeah, there are TONS AND TONS of those "best city" reports.. i for one, knowing what i do now, will NEVER go by those again. Gainesville FL has been rated as #1 city to live in, and i really dislike it (maybe its becuase im so used to the northeast) - poverty is about 29% here, housing is out of sight compared to wages, a 130k house in raleigh would compare to a 220k upwards to 230k house here, highest gas taxes in FL, traffic is horrid, etc, etc. Weather's great tho
So where is this great city that the magazines talk about ?
