For instance, the line I keep seeing repeated is that Trump defunded the CDC. That's false, the CDC is not and was never defunded by Trump and didn't close 39 offices. It was an erroneous half report in I think the NY Times that Schumer repeated on the floor and then others started repeating Schumer. What the truth was that if a bill didn't get passed CDC would lose 40% of their operating budget and have to close 39 offices, but the bill was passed, signed off on by Trump, and they continuted operating normally with all 49 offices still open.

I wish there were actual repercussions for journalists that do garbage like that intentionally. As much as people complain about real estate, it's much more transparent that most things out there.
You are correct about the CDC, but that isn't where the pandemic team was. So you are partially correct. Obama created a pandemic team in 2016 at the National Security Council after the Ebola outbreak, NOT the CDC. It was that team that was disbanded in 2018. So yes, Trump/Bolton disbanded the pandemic team set up by Obama, but not at the CDC. It was at the NSC.

It was the Office of Global Health Security and Biodefense. That is what they eliminated at the NSC.

The responsibilities were reported to be reassigned but I don't know if enough to say if that was effective, or lip service, or what. People in the know in the field would need to speak on that because I'm not qualified to do so.

Odd that of all the political posts, which are in my opinion relevant on this discussion of how the real estate market will be affected, you singled out my bipartisan post as the one that offended you. Heck, I didn't even start it, I was responding to a few other posters. But since you called me to the floor, tell me what about my post is incorrect or offensive to you? I am genuinely curious. My only guess is either you perceived my post as defending Trump and you didn't like it, or you are a journalist. Which is it?

I think it is safe to say that they were eliminated and not reassigned.

Oregon is giving an automatic 4 weeks of unemployment for people laid off due to the mandatory closures. The website crashed today due to all of the applications.

Thankfully my city has an Amazon distribution and delivery center so I'm hoping some people can get temporary jobs there to tide them over.

OP you need to understand we are in buyer market. To be exact in market that is currently nose diving. This same thing that happens when OP think he/she knows the market better and feels that their house is worth xxx and not a cent less . I understand you think 50k less is insult especially only after 3 days on the market, but i would call that buyer crazy for even giving you an offer at all. This crisis is not going away anytime soon as such people will be out of jobs, financial markets are dropping and people are losing million of dollars. You ultimately can hold on to your house and not sell it below asking price but you might find out that it will take long time before market actually recovers.

I think many expect a repeating a 2008 scenario. This is much deeper than that on so many levels. It's a perfect storm - virus, broken relations w/ China, supply chains with China on life support, facing 20% unemployment, not to mention the end of the world as we know it (thanks REM, those lyrics have been stuck in my head).

Values very well may be at their peak but it could be temporary. We could also be facing a socialist future by happenstance. It may not matter what we want, but it could be what is needed to survive. Look OP, in the simplest of terms you may be at the end of your opportunity to make personal choices. Soon, they could be made for you. Unfortunately, by the time you know the answer it may be too late. It sucks that you chose now to move. Just like leaving your 401 k alone, I would put off any major changes within my control in my life right now. But if you cannot live with the offer, simply move on, but every day the buyer pool is shrinking in more ways than one. You could be stuck for some time.

Keep in mind that your agent wants his commission now, not later. He doesn't care how much or how little you sell your house for as long as he gets his payday now. He'll tell you anything to convince you to take the offer.

I don't blame you for not accepting the low ball offer. Just don't expect your agent to do much work on selling your house after you decline the offer. He'll be too busy convincing other clients to sell now for whatever they can get.

Are you in real estate? I ask because it sounds like you are not understanding the market. Under normal circumstances i would agree that after 3 days on the market 50k below asking price is not an offer that should be considered unless house is way overprices compare to comps. In this market, 50k below asking price is actually great offer as chances are OP might not get an offer anytime soon. Look what is happening at the market, unemployment etc, how many people do you think currently a) have the money to make real estate purchase and b) are actually planing on making one right now. The answer is not many.

Take the money and run.

That said....... its possible your buyer wont even be able to close. Typically takes 45 days to close and in that time everything is going to fall apart. Including their loan, unless they are cash. When hardly anyone will qualify for loans, prices will face extreme downward pressure.
