Well, of those, I am familiar with Chevy Chase, MD - and no, its not gated at all. Its an area of older (1920's-ish home) just outside the DC line. I use to live very near there in NW DC, but in a tiny basement apartment I rented.

This is simply because of one man.

Yes, the area is nice, and expensive - but when the richest man in the world lives there.... it kind of over inflates things.

Plus the median home price in this area is already $405k for a really pretty average (small and older, not necessarily updated) home. Seattle and it's suburbs are still experiencing climbing prices...

Greenwich is number1? That zip code covers the western and northern parts of the town. Lots of large estates and beautiful old and new homes. Jay

Dragonten - I posted this list on the Connecticut Board. We have been having an on-going discussion of Greenwich there and this fit right in. Thanks for the info. Jay

PS - I credited you for the post.

I'm familiar with Hinsdale (suburb of Chicago) No, it's not gated. I'm a little surprised though that's the average prices in Hinsdale are higher than some of the North Shore suburbs like Kenilworth or Lake Forest.
