I am a student at a real estate college and my background is of a data analyst. I would like to know where to find data for recent home sales I can use for market analysis for class. Ideally, I want every detail and I will filter out what I don't need. I tried the County Assessor's office and the township's office but they only want to provide information about a single property and I want it by county if possible.

Redfin has some great aggregate data if they cover the area you're looking in. Some parts of the country just have poor data availability if the local MLS restricts access. Ultimately, you want MLS access.

I see you are in the Chicago area. I don't know if I can say the name here, but one of the major Chicago newspapers (the one that starts with a T) has this data available online. Some of the smaller, regional papers also have the data.

You might also need to be creative. Call a few real estate agents from smaller companies (because they are less likely to have someone that does data analysis regularly). Ask them if they could supply you with the data you need fairly easily. In turn you will supply them with your market analysis or do some other statistical analysis they need. I don't recall if the Chicago area is still served by one MLS or two if you want all of the data, but it should help.

Thank you Dave Barnes, I like the site but the data is not current enough.

rrah I will do more research into T's data as I want to be more self-sufficient and not reliant on a realtor. Moderator cut: off toppic

The T's data will not provide DOM or the list price, if you need it. That will probably only be available through an MLS as it's not generally public info.
