... and would they be considered the same style? They look way bigger than a ranch, one has dormers, same overall shape (to me, at least).

The top one to me looks like a large cape cod style, although some of the windows have a gothic look to them. The bottom one looks like a ranch, but with a steeply pitched roof.

I’d say #2 is late 50s/early 60s Suburban Nondescript.

I love the first one...my favorite color combination...yellow with white trim and dark green or black shutters.

ranch = single story (or with basement)

the first is a 1.5 story, assuming it's got living space upstairs

Agree. That would be called a Cape Cod out here too.

The second one almost looks like it was a Norman Farmhouse/English Cottage that got a huge addition at some point.

The Zillow listing for #2 has this info:

"This amazing mid-century modern home is today as it was designed in the early 1950's by James A. Malcolm to be the GE Hotpoint "Home of the Future." It was truly ahead of its time."

The main living areas have a vaulted, beamed ceiling.

Nope, not the same style at all, IMHO. Matching steep roof pitch is about all. One is kinda colonial-ish and the other is mid-century modern-ish. I wouldn't guess that they're good examples of any specific style, but maybe it would be more apparent when seeing more than one picture.
