Ha, our friends in Mission Viejo have a backyard just like that. They planted a few shrubs and let their chickens browse up and down the hillside. Not much else you can do with it.

This is a non-issue because it's standard for the area. But imagine if you live in a Middle America subdivision where all the other houses have nice backyards, and you have none. In the current market, your house will be scooped up on the first day. But the poor sucker who buys it at an inflated price will have a heck of a time re-selling it.

I am seeing quite a few such properties hit the market lately. It's not a coincidence.

Bad in most areas, not bad in areas where every other home is similar. If everyone else has a yard, and you don’t, your home value will be less, and selling your home will be difficult.
