I just came across this recipe. If you need a quick chocolate fix this might be the answer.
Chocolate Mug Cake
4 tb flour
4 tb sugar
2 tb unsweetened cocoa
1 small or medium egg
3 tb milk or water
3 tb vegetable oil
a few drops of vanilla
Mix the dry ingredients in a mug and use a fork to stir in the egg, milk, oil, and vanilla until everything is evenly moistened. Microwave on High for 3 minutes. The cake will rise and then shrink back down. Let the cake stand and cool a little, then eat out of the mug. Add ice cream or whipped cream if you like.
OMG! That sure beats making an entire cake and having to eat half of it. But darnit........ I'm trying to stay away from the sweets. Now that just gives me a reason to have "just one". But it sure does sound good

Wow, I am going to have to try this! What a cool concept; I've never heard of anything like it.
Magnum Mike posted this recipe a while back in the Other Topics forum, if I am not mistaken. I believe he even shared photos of his "experiment"! I tried it and have to admit, for the effort involved it wasn't half-bad!
Dang. I used to have this recipe, and I got rid of it so that I could NEVER again make chocolate cake for myself in the afternoon. Now here it is again. Taunting me.

I ask because I tried this recipe and unfortunately it was WAY too overcooked, chewy, and bland in flavor. Please englighten me if you have any tips to share!

You probably have a high wattage microwave, maybe the cooking time needs to be reduced. When I made it with the exact proportions as the recipe indicates, the bottom part was a tad overcooked but the rest was edible. I think it was all the chocolate chips that sunk to the bottom that over cooked it. A pinch of salt will go a long way in getting rid of the blandness in flavor, and next time I'm going to try using Lindt dark choc instead of cheapo Hershey's cocoa!
I'll try experimenting again this weekend to see if I can get a more tender result - I was planning to roll the chips in cocoa before tossing them in (without stirring them down) to see if that helps with them not sinking to the bottom of the mug. I'm going to try reducing the flour for a moister cake. I would take pics too, but I have misplaced my digi camera (and right before my daughters birthday, as well as my own just yesterday). I'll post again with what I get!
I tried it just now using Splenda. I also just a little bit of real sugar so that I could use salt to enhance the sweetness effectively. It worked pretty well, but I used really cheap Nestle Tollhouse Cocoa. I should try it again with chocolate chips as DontH8te me was saying. My way was good , but a bit more bland since it was healthier. I'm trying to do the South Beach Diet, and technically this was cheating anyways because of the flour in it (I can't have carbs). But 2 tablespoons of the stuff isn't so bad. Er, but I ended up putting a little bit of Hershey's Special Dark Chocolate Syrup on top of the finished cake. Hehehe. >:3

Mell - have you tried MIM's? These aren't chocolate, but ...
MIM's (muffin in a minute)
3 tbs (1/4cup) flax seed meal
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp splenda
1 tsp cinnamon
1 large egg
1 tsp butter.
Put the dry ingredients into a coffee mug.
Stir.
Add the egg and butter, mix well.
Microwave on high for 1 minute (or more).
Take out, slice and serve with butter or SF jam.
Flax seed meal is an acquired taste when you start low carbing
