anyone use spices or herbs on salads? (chicken, celery, carrots)

I would like to know the name of a few that are being used(if any). I was never into salads before but am now starting to make some. Any ideas help.

I like freshly ground black pepper on my salads. Depending on the salad dressing and salad fixings, fresh cilantro, basil or parsley are the herbs that typically grace my salads. I grow these herbs so I have a readily available supply on hand.

Tonight, I am having a Chef's salad (with Thousand Island dressing) and will add a little fresh parsley and freshly ground black pepper.

My salads at home almost always consist of greens, oil (olive if available...if not, veg works too), garlic (fresh minced or freeze dried powder), vinegar (red wine preferred, but balsamic or cider or rice all do nicely too), salt and pepper to taste. I sometimes add cucumbers and/or tomatoes and/or onions.

When available I sometimes add fresh herbs, like basil or parsley.

I mix and toss my own, very rarely will I use a bottled or pre-mixed dressing.


Salad consists of whatever you want it to, really.

My salads usually have: Lettuce, Spinach, Cucumber, Tomatoes, Croutons, Bacon bits, Chicken, Carrots, Cheese, Celery and whatever herbs on hands.

I mix fresh herbs in with the greens - dill, Italian parsley, lemon thyme, oregano or rosemary if I'm in the mood. Sometimes even mint.

Spices ... depends on the salad.

I like lots of shredded cheddar and Louisiana hot sauce on salads.

I am always trying to use the herbs in my garden, so I always add some into the greens, which are a mix of iceberg and spring greens. I hate a pale, sad salad with only iceberg, so any kind of dark green herb or lettuce would go in, as well as whatever fresh veggies I have.

I don't usually put cheese in mine, because of the calories, but sometimes I put in blue cheese and bacon bits, or some feta and Greek olives.

Mostly in summer I use from my garden herbs in my fresh salads and there is no better taste than that Family loves it and it is healthy too .

A few shakes from a bottle of dried crushed red pepper gives any salad a nice bite
