I love my crock pot and use it often. When I make pot roast I tend to use shoulder steak for London broil plus lots of veggies (carrots, onions, potatoes, mushrooms) and it ALWAYS turns out great ...

^^^ Just found those photos in an old thread of mine. Cooked for 6-1/2 hours on medium (my old crock pot had settings of 1-2-3-4-5 and 3 was medium) but it likely would have been fine after 5-1/2 or 6. The photos made me want to make pot roast TODAY but alas, I don't have all the ingredients ready! Maybe this weekend. It's a great dish for cold New England days.

I've never used mushrooms in mine, just the other veggies you mention. Tell me about mushrooms...

LOL, I love mushrooms so I put them in just about everything! The pot roast would still taste great even without them.

Well You are talking about my favorite appliance. I love my Crock Pot.
However, I use it more for cold weather and living in Florida, do not use it for months on end
BUT we have had a cold snap, using it now.

There is a long And funny story About 17 years ago, I got my first one for Christmas. My son, who was about 4 brought it over to me in a big bag, larger than he was, and said
"here's your present It's a slow cooker"
I am on my second one since then. I take good care of them

My favorite Easy recipe is to buy one of those Brown Gravy mixes, a cheap one, and put it in the slow cooker, add a few cups of water and whisk it around Then I put chunks of one small onion, a roast on top of the onion, a pound or a pound and a half of carrots (Chopped, our favorite part) then two large peeled potatoes I put more water to bring it up about a half inch from the top of the roast, add garlic powder, black pepper and Italian seasoning, turn it on high, and leave.
It is usually tender after 6 hours but mine runs the course of the day. 8 Hours of cooking, 8 minutes of eating and it is gone

Odd that in our family, it is the man who does most of the cooking and asks for most of the kitchen gadgets. A Crock pot would be my first choice of any item.......a hand mixer is handy, a blender is smooth, but the Slow Cooker really is nice.

Oh and if you google recipes for slow cooker or crock pot, you will find more than you can read in a lifetime. I like to just experiment

I hope u like your toy. No kitchen is complete without one.
