my mom was old skool and believed that the man should always pay. but my dad said don't give a man a reason to expect sex. i have tried to balance their lessons, and came to this conclusion: regardless of the stage in the relationship, the one who asks should be willing and able to pay and the one who receives should be willing and able to contribute. neither person should be expected to go way out of their budget to impress the other.

Just my opinion.

Equality is equality in my opinion. A women should hold the door for me as much as I should hold it for her.

Again - this is not 1950 anymore.

And, you're certainly no gentleman, right? You're going to be single for a long time...

I agree with the sentiment that the person who invites should be expected to pay.

Well it was never legally a right to have my dinner paid for or a door opened for me in 1950 either.

What about chivalry do men not get? It was an androcentric society who developed those basic principles about how women should be treated (meanwhile subjugating them in every sense that actually counted).

I can't imagine someone you're dating this early on would suggest such an expensive trip without expecting to pay. How does he know you can afford it? How does he know he will not embarrass you if you can't?

Unless it's broached in this manner: "I'm taking this trip, I would like you to join, providing you have the means and it's feasible schedule-wise?"

But more likely it was broached in this manner: "Hey lover, would you like to come away with me to Vegas?"

I only seem to encounter these types online. IRL I've never met a man like this. They must not leave the house.

Ditto. Talk of the internet attracting cranks and malcontents is actually true.

I no longer waste my time arguing on this topic. I'll only say one thing – as far as I’m concerned, he (and the rest like him) can certainly do as they please and they better be ready for the fruit of their efforts and not come here to whine about it!
