I guess there are ways to tell this to your girl. A guy can be blunt or answer with honesty being careful how to say it. Still, it seems some women will feel totally insulted no matter what the answer ir (true or not). If the guy lied to her saying she looked just fine when in reality she was not or if he told her the truth saying she was fat indeed.
What would you (women) prefer to hear?
It depends on the woman. Some women just want reassurance from their loved one that they look good. If she asks "Do I look fat in this?" what she may really be asking is "Do you find me attractive?" and wait to hear the "oh honey you look beautiful" response.
Other times, women REALLY want to know if they look fat/bad/flat bottomed, etc.
My wife gets around it by saying "Do I look okay in these pants?" or "How do I look?". If she's wearing something that makes her butt look all pillowy, flat, flabby, matronly like, she WANTS me to tell her so.
Sometimes, she'll ask "Do I look fat in this?" when she knows doggone well she looks amazing. Like in these Bebe jeans she has and these other black jeans or her Lulumon Athletica yoga pants.

I think if a woman asks that question, she already knows she looks fat.
My sweet husband knew just what to say when I was feeling chunky. Our daughter was 4 months old and I still needed to lose a few more pounds
from my hips. I'm 5'6" and 125 lbs. He told me "Mama, that's just more cushion for the pushing! Now come sit in Daddy's lap."
I don't ask the question because I already know the answer. The outfit doesn't make my butt look big. My butt makes my butt look big.
