My husband is 6ft and I am 5'8" so tall people in general. My daughter just recently broke up with her bf of 3years . He was 6'2" and she is 5'7.5" but she frequently wears 3 inch heels. Now she is seeing someone who she really likes (I do too ) that is 5'9" and her friends are giving her grief! I was listening to them discussing how even though the new bf is hot, he is "short". I thought 5'9" was the national average for men. Later she said it really bothers her now because of her girl friends feedback. So my question is...Is height really that important??? Discuss..

I think if both parties' feet reach the ground when they're standing, it's all good.

As long as no one can say,

I'm 5'6'' and have dated guys in the 5'6'' - 5'8'' range....it wasn't a big deal.

My issue with shorter guys is they can sometimes have a Napoleon complex or lack some of the confidence of a guy who is, say, 6'3''. But that's really on a case by case basis.

That said - if it's already in her head, it's likely to not disappear - at least with this guy. Personally I like dating a taller guy - but that's necessarily the norm nor should it be a determining factor in a relationship. Sounds like your daughter's friends are the problem here, not her guy's height...

Geez...I am 5'11", if I waited to find a guy tall enough for me to date...forget about it. Her friends are probably those 5'4" types...It does not matter. Think about Dudley Moore, he was married to Susan Anton...

Her friends are the problem. The height should not even matter in a relationship.

After all, when you are lying down in bed...everything seems to even out...

However, there are insecure men, who have a need to feel "manly" or dominating...and feel like they need to date a tiny, petite woman...okay, whatever.

I prefer a secure man, who loves TALL women, with long legs, who wear short skirts, and HIGH heels. I don't care how tall he is, that is not even on my radar...if he has an issue with how tall I am, that is HIS problem...and he needs to go find a tiny woman. Besides, alot of men can't handle a woman who could beat his a&& at basketball.

I'm a 6'1" male... ideally my woman would be a few inches shorter than me, for practical purposes, but there's always an exception to be made.

@jasper really? Where do you live that you can't find guys who are taller than you?

Miami, the land of Cuban men...5'4" is the average height of Cubans...and Haitians...and there is me, just a tall, blonde, Amazon...I don't fit in at all here.

(everybody has preferences, so I don't begrudge a man for liking shorter women, nor do I think it necessarily has to do with wanting to dominate/feel manly. -theimporterswife )

What she said , especially the part in bold!

I'm 6'1" and my husband is around 5'10" and I love my high heels.

As your daughter has noticed, and as I have experienced, it's other girls who seem to take issue with a taller girl being with a shorter guy and aren't shy about making their opinions known. I've found that men don't care as much.
