I notice in old movies, if there is a couple, if a man was being attacked by another man the woman would often just stand out looking scared, or scream or something, but rarely do anything to help out. I don't mean she steps in and yells 'bring it on' and offers to fight for him, but she could at least pull the attacker's hair or kick him in the nuts or whack him on the head with a frying pan or something (if available). Of course it's understandable not wanting to get in harms way, but still, standing around doing nothing? If it's the other way around the man would like risk his life to save his lady. I know it's natural for men to be the protector, but seriously, it's not like she's helpless. She could at least do something!
Or like, if someone is drowning, the woman, who is perfectly capable of swimming herself, will yell for the nearest big strong man to come save the person until she is hoarse, until said person is almost drowning. The exception is if it's the woman's family member or child.
Of course this seems to have changed in Hollywood and the movies aren't always reflective of reality, but don't you find women who do nothing or act all helpless pretty irritating? I'm not expecting women to be the protector or anything, but there are some who believe it's totally the man's job and if he gets into a spot of bother he should be man enough to fight it out himself, even if she could help to some degree.
Why are you asking us? You saw this in an old movie and only the screenwriters of those movies could possibly answer. It's fiction not documentary footage.
I'm not going to embarass him by "helping" him beat up the other guy. Besides, if I should step in, then that means that the man fighting my "man" is now well within his right to strike me, and i'm not going to get hit by ANY man. I'll let them handle it themselves.

What happened to women being "ladies" and allowing their men to protect "them"?
Why does everything have to turn into a feminist's perspective of everything?

If he was getting beat up by a thug to within an inch of his life, and you could save his life by say, grabbing a piece of pipe or something and whacking the assailant over the head would you just stand by?

If he was getting killed, I probably wouldn't kick the guy in the nuts, but would have to find something to put the guy out. Kicking him won't do it probably.
I'd dial 911 if there were weapons involved, otherwise, I'd just let the best man win. Of course it would be my guy because he's the biggest bad ass out there. There aren't thugs tough enough to take him down.
