After slipping on ice earlier this week and ending up in the ER (hit my head hard and thought I'd broken my jaw ), I'm just wondering if anyone else here feels like they "cost" more to keep healthy?

Even with insurance I know there is a bill coming for all the xrays and treatment I received in the ER, not to mention the cost of 3 RX's.

And just last month I had an abcessed tooth which ended up costing us $1600 out of pocket! (no dental insurance )

While we were waiting for xrays to be read in the ER I looked at my husband and told him that marrying me was probably the worst financial decision he ever made, LOL. Over the years it's been one thing after another and my husband still seems okay with keeping me around, go figure

That's such an interesting question!!!

I'm very pleased to say that neither of us cost a lot of money to maintain. We spend a lot of money on organic foods, superfoods, supplements, clean filtered water and everything that will KEEP us away from doctors. Yes, accidents do happen such as yours, but so far, knock on wood, we had been very careful. We hardly ever go to doctors.

I cost more in other ways though. Thank God for my thrifty husband. If it wasn't for him, we would be broke. I'm disorganized and terrible with money.

PS: My husband is in fantastic physical shape for his age.

Does this question have to apply to our SO? I ask because we have nicknamed our son "copay" because he is such a regular at the ER!

LM, I am so glad you are ok! Be careful with the upcoming storm!

Maybe he thinks the "fringe" benefits are worth the cost of "ownership"?

Thanks mrstewart, it was a very hard fall, which I did not see coming. Right now I feel pretty beat up, but so grateful it wasn't worse.

Love that nickname for your son, LOLOLOLOLOL

You are so sweet, and must be right

Honestly, if I could catalog all the ways I have cost us money over the years you'd think I was making it all up! This is one reason why I never balk if/when my hubby wants to buy something for himself - he could never spend as much on himself as we've had to spend on stuff for me!

I used to feel really badly about it all, actually downright guilty. But over time he's convinced me I'm worth whatever it costs to keep me here and with him

You are so lucky you did not suffer a concussion or worse! Glad you are here, happy and healthy, to keep us all straight!

I have to admit to thinking of Natasha Richardson and the blow to her head that killed her an hour later. I have never hit my head so hard and the crack I heard scared me to pieces. Fortunately, I was bundled up in layers with 3 ski caps on under the hood of my jacket - they cushioned the blow just enough to keep me from a full concussion. Now if I could just get rid of the headache!

Thanks for the kind words

Darlin', your very well worth the expense

From all the lustrums i've lived in the mountain boonies exploring the BLM lands, i learned to use a walking stick. Many times i'm in areas noone else is around. It especially helps in the icy spots. It's like having a third leg to brace myself with. Please get in the habit of using a walking stick, or at least a cane.

I'm very happy you weren't hurt badly My Friend

I hope you don't always spend the money on this kind of purchases for yourself, LM!

It drives me nuts when my body fails me, too. Last year I spent 8K on doctors, dentists, and meds. That money would've been enough to completely furnish my house and make it comfortable. Sending it down the drain made me sick, but on the other hand I wasn't gonna live in the pretty house, so...

Of course, no loving and caring spouse would object to spending money on your health, for Pete's sake! It's not fun, that's for sure... Heck, I hate spending it even on myself for these reasons, but what can you do...

Hope you feel better soon!
