OK, so I've moved the washer and dryer up onto cement blocks in the basement. The next step will be to disconnect the furnace burner unit if the water keeps coming in.
Sounds like you're having loads of fun last few days, Chunky. Do you know how to swim?

Well, no, but I can breathe through my ears.
...or so I've been told.
Yeah, loads of fun, but when I start feeling too sorry for myself here I just watch coverage of what's going on in Japan - that makes MY troubles seem like nothing.

Yeah. How do people live in such places...? They're like friggin' time bombs.

Those blow-up dolls can come in handy! Chunk, make sure somebody makes a video of your underwater activities with her for our entertainment!
Every place has its problems, Sierra
Japan, California, Hawaii - tsunami and earthquakes.
Nevada, Arizona is facing drought.
Florida - hurricanes and tsunami
We can go on and on.

Well, I didn't have any such problems back home and I'm happy not to have them here, either. The worst is wild fires (how "wild" they are is sometimes questionable) in summer and they have never reached the city. As far as the drought, that's pure fear-mongering, IMO.

We get hailsones the size of softballs. If you ever get caught in one of our huge hailstorms you'll never forget.
Then there's the tornado's that rip through ever so often.

Yeah, like that's what I'm interested to do on this thread.
ETA: just pointing out that there are other problems in other areas of the world.

Eh, like MM said every place has it's own unique style of trouble, whether natural or man-made.
Besides, fear-mongering is good - it keeps you on your toes.
