I feel like this is a crowning achievement for women. When a woman gets engaged, she'll ordinarily have photo albums on Facebook and tell everyone far and wide about it. This picture says it all.

So what is the social equivalent for a man? I suppose many men would post pictures of their "conquests," but that's not really socially acceptable. The only thing I can think of is the following:

Status Update: "Just made partner at Smith and Smith."

But that still doesn't seem to compare. Thoughts?

Having a threesome.

Or having your team win the national championship on an epic, last-gasp Hail Mary pass into quadruple coverage. That's pretty sweet.

A hole-in-one.

Buying a boat.

Winning the lottery and telling the boss to stick it.

Shark Week on the Discovery Channel.

None I can think of.

Definitely not a new baby or a threesome for me though. Those are entirely different feelings.

I would say getting engaged is also a pretty big deal for men. So maybe we don't go ballistic when it happens, but that's only because we're so tired from working extra hours to be able to afford that engagement ring. If it wasn't a big deal we wouldn't have spent a third of our yearly income on it.

I don't know - my husband was pretty thrilled when we got engaged and when we got married. I know he's super excited now that we're having a baby. Why do you assume that the guy isn't as excited about getting engaged and getting married? Just because he doesn't post pics on Facebook? My hubby doesn't post anything on Facebook. In fact, I made his page for him!

Sometimes it takes many years for a man to find the love of his life. Once he's finally found it, then he can start looking for a wife.
