Zeppelin was sued by several different artists who they "borrowed" music from...Sonny Boy Williamson for Bring it on Home, Willie Dixon for Whole Lotta Love, and more recently Jake Holmes for Dazed and Confused.
To be fair, a lot of musicians, to include the black blues musicians of previous generations stole and borrowed music from one another.
People, especially if you go back to slavery, couldn't read and write and told stories through song and also communicated messages through song. Go back to Woody Guthrie in the Dust Bowl and This Land is Your Land.
A lot of it was never copyrighten, Levee wasn't it was public domain. and when Zeppelin did copyrights they copyrighted "Versions." Dylan did a lot of that crap too. He did a version of Levee recently and copyrighted his 'version' of it. Gotta love those loopholes.
Some of you guys are really impressive with the breadth of musical knowledge you have. I can't claim the same, but I know for me to love a song it has to connect with my gut and move me. Sounds so corny.

Yep. You Gotta Move! Or feel moved!
Actually, It was reading about artists I liked where I discovered new musicians and music I'd never heard before and who their influences were and if a name was mentioned in a book I looked up a song on the internet and it all grew from that.

My son is like that too, but in a more OCD type of way. He knows every one-hit wonder, all the billboard charts memorized from the 60's on, how many top hits each band has had, from what year, where they are now, etc.... and it all started when he began forming his own personal musical tastes.
Sometimes it's like living with a walking music almanac, but he's so cute about it and although at times it can be annoying listening to a litany of information, it's pretty cool.
I don't mind the more common ones from time to time. But some posts read like cryptic ransom notes. I still don't know what FH means, and I'm too lazy to google it.
I asked about that one (FH) in the "DH" thread, last night. And I did Google it! I still got nuthin'.
I agree! I hate reading posts that have a bunch of capital letters instead of real words. I think if you have the time to write something, you have the time to do it right. Ok, I'm a crotchety old fart, I admit it. You must agree if I would have typed COF none of you would have know what I was talking about. Some of you still don't.
Well, I guess I don't mind coming off as a 16 yr old kid. My dh too.
I wish we had a kiss-my-arse emoticon.
