I'm trying to understand why some men try to pick up dates out in public and whether or not that actually works. I'm not talking about quick sexual harassment/catcalling but when a guy actually accosts you for your name and phone number or asks if they can "get to know you". Whenever this happens to me I'm baffled that a complete stranger would assume that I'd just go on a date without knowing anything about him (and he doesn't know anything about me!).
So ladies, have you ever actually decided to go out with a guy you "met" five seconds ago? If so, did it go well?
Men are welcome to post their thoughts but please don't vote...I'm sure you'd like to see the real numbers anyway!

Does having your brother pick you up and toss you into a public fountain in downtown Cincinnati count?

I asked out my ex on the street (from my car, i asked her in her car).
I asked her to roll down the window....she did.....i said hi and asked if she wants to have a cup of coffee sometime.....she said ok......we pulled over, exchanged numbers and met the next day :-)

we went out for 3 years (or so...) and the relationship ended badly lol :-)

This has happened to me a few times and it's always creepy. I would never go anywhere with a complete stranger, it's not safe.

No, I have never been asked out by a stranger.

I asked out my ex, who was a stranger at the time. He was a busboy in a restaurant where I was celebrating my birthday with friends. He was cute and I asked him to my birthday party that weekend. So if this poll were for men, he would answer A.

I was pulling out of self serve car wash once and got a knock on my window. I had already washed my car the day before and was only there to get quarters to do my laundry. My eyes locked with this gentlemen and there was this 6th sense vibe. Thinking he had some time because I would be washing the car he didn't pounce on me. But then had to quickly improvise when he watched me pull out. He told me he had paid the car wash attendant to wash my car for me. Long story short we dated for 10 years. I gave him points for being creative and smooth.

Some years back in the summer i was at the lake, met a nice gal & her two younguns. I was then helping her girl & boy with their fishin' gear.

The next week i took them fishin out in my boat, & had a great picnic at a nice shore spot we found. It was a FUn day . I dated mom several times & also took them all fishin' some more.

"Take someone fishin', they will have food fer the day.
Teach someone how to fish, they will have food fer a lifetime."

You must be a cutie then because guys who try to "pick up" girls on the street do it based solely on looks, like you've pointed out (he knows nothing about you).

I used to make a living doing this... it's successful for several reasons.
