I was inspired by that other thread about talking to her friend about the relationship and the boyfriend getting upset. And the advice given to her was that he would get the boot if he cant understand.
Who I put first (whether that's my SO, my family, a friend, myself, whomever) is variable and also situational. It depends on the context and situation. There is a time and a place where each of those parties will come first, and a time and a place where they'll take backseat to somebody else's needs. There is no one general rule.

This one. ^^^^
I also don't have a tendency to have SOs who are jealous and make ultimatums.
Like Tabula, it would depend on the situation for me. I am fiercely loyal to my friends, but a SO is a little different, especially if I am considering making my SO my wife.
If I do recall correctly, the other thread's OP has had the friend for 15 years and the boyfriend for eight months. Sticky situation indeed.

^^Perfect answer right there. I need not post anything more.

Not much else to add here.
There are so many variables that the OP's question just is too broad.
