Hugs make a WORLD of difference, but they have to be WANTED. People should not cross boundaries, as a prime example of this are all the hugs given out at 12 step groups. I've experienced myself where strange men I've never met have wanted to hug me and they hold on just a wee bit too long. Ick! Now, a hug from a friend, family member, even counselor (although counselors read body language and tread lightly on that one) can make all the difference in the world). Some of the best hugs and kisses come from my dogs. They're always sincere and I know they love me.
I love hugs - as long as they are from people I genuinely care about and they care about me. My daughter, close friends, etc. Not the grocery bagger or my electrician. Affection - hugs, holding hands - are important to me in a relationship. My husband wasn't an affectionate person and if I date again that will be on my 'must' list.
I'm not much of a hugger, but I'm willing to hug you (that is if I know you). Strangers? Not so much.
Oh yeah, kids? Definitely. Love hugging them chunky kids!
