I work with a lot of smarter people, engineers and the like. I consider myself a pretty smart guy, but, I know that his may be a gross generalization, but on the whole, people who are really really smart, they seem like they have no sense of humor and take themselves way way too seriously.

It depends, it is a case by case basis. Sometimes very funny people are smart because it takes a sharp mind to find great humor in certain things. I have also met some very nice and charming people who are serious and without risibility.

People are generally attracted to someone who is their intellectual equal, at least in my circle and my work environment. I don't know of any Drs who date someone who isn't as educated or successful. Sometimes the nurses date someone who isn't as educated but I think there is still a level of intelligence they go for.

I do not think a person has to be formally educated to be intelligent either. If you have an inquisitive mind, you are well read and knowledgeable about a variety of topics, you are just a more interesting person.

It just without even saying that intelligence has to come with a congenial and pleasant personality. It doesn't matter how smart you are, if you're an ass, people won't like you. Although even this is subjective. I consider some of the Drs at work pompous pricks but they're married, so someone loves them.

Each to their own. I'm sure even people we would all think Walmart trailer trash consider themselves somewhat intelligent and aspire to have someone as intelligent as themselves.
what's wrong with shopping at walmart? it's mainstream. most of my immediate family shops at walmart. some are engineers and fairly successful business owners and some who have gone to stanford. even my ex brags about how the t shirt she got is from walmart for $6 and she makes around $300k. i have to admit, they've got some tasty fried shrimp at walmart. maybe we're just tacky and cheap.

How is it that a fool can perceive himself to be a genius?

When assessing one's own intelligence level, an overinflated ego will always distort that perception. The bigger the ego, the worse the distortion.

For me it depends. There are two kinds of intellect, one is "reproductive." Those who posses it have the capacity for long term memory bank and can quote from scholars but no originality, I find them condescending, repetitive and boring. While the other is "creative." Now...this type I find interesting for they can quote themselves and are usually humorous and have the capability for abstract and engaging views. I get drawn to this kind of intellect.

Intelligence in a relationship is desirable. It's far easier to explain warped desires to one with a rudimentary knowledge of mammalian physiology and of how small electrical appliances function.

Well, Fooles were the only ones allowed to speak their minds to Kings and Queens, even to the point of insulting them, and often influenced royal policy and actions ...

Must be some common sense in there somewhere.
