You know, it's not fair. Women should be able to marry multiple men, too. Though every woman I bring this idea up to seems to think it's nasty...who wants to pick up after more than one guy?
I would love three husbands.
The funny thing is Polyandry [Women with multiple husbands] would probably produce a better lifestyle than polygany [Men with multiple wives] even though it [Men with multiple wives] is practiced at a higher rate. -(Thanks for the correction. noela)-
I feel this way because If you only have one woman, you wont have as many children. Less children + 3 working husbands= More money, opportunity, and more security for the children. They wouldnt have to compete for one father's affection with 26 other children who dont even have the same mother as them. Having the same father a someone doesn't give you the same connection that you have with maternal siblings.
Having one mother ties children together more than having multiple mothers.
And also, if there is only one woman there is less bitchyness and jelousy in the household. Well, less PMS bitchyness.
Now let me go find those husbands....

TO answer the question, I think society is already changing their views. Our society is reluctant, but we're still moving forward. In America slow and steady wins the race.

I thought the terms were "polyandry" (one woman, multiple male partners) and "polygyny" (one man, multiple female partners)?

I don't think I could. One is just right or even more than enough for me. I like a (mostly) quiet house, alone time, lots of privacy... Three men would be too invasive for me to endure it!
On the other hand, if they only visited when I wanted them to, and then left me alone...
I would like to hear from the types of people that demand fidelity in relationships as well: Do you expect to live happily ever after with a loyal spouse? Are you expecting these things to not come up? What is it in your brain that makes you so incredibly loyal? Would you rather be alone forever than deal with this behavior? Do you automatically demand and expect loyalty out of all your mates?
"Demand" is not quite the right word...but yes, if a romantic partner truly loved me and I them, I would assume that the fact they loved me that much would also mean they wouldn't participate in infidelity. I would automatically trust them, unless given concrete and clear meaningful information otherwise.

Thanks for the correction. I read about these things so often that sometimes the similar terms get confusing to write.
I honestly think that men would be more willing to have their turn, and give privacy.
Can you imagine fighting over time spent with one man with ten other wives? Eek.
Derek on Monday, Bob on Wednesday, Andrew on Friday. Group date on Saturday, and Sunday is my off day. That actually sounds like a nice sex schedule.
Western society does project unhealthy views on sexuality and relationships, it's too restrictive, prudish and unrealistic.
One could also reasonably counter that there are s*xually-liberal groups and advocates that project unhealthy views on s*xuality and relationships. Except that these unhealthy standards are extreme, sadistic, unnatural, narcissistic, self-centered, destructive, and psychologically harmful.

Key word is "consensual". If it's consensual and between adults, I'm fine with it. Nobody forces me or anyone else to do anything, so to each his/her own.

I strongly disagree, with the above. Think about it...if it were hypothetically legalized, would you *really* want your son/daughter/husband/wife to be able to partake of it?

It's a complex issue but I generally agree with you on this. I have some nagging doubts sometimes but more often than not I don't think legalizing prostitution is a good idea.

If prostitution were legal and regulated, I would be fine with my daughter doing it. For me prostitution is similar porn without the cameras.
But thats only if it were legal and properly controlled. I would not want my daughter being an invisible prostitute. There is a big difference.
Im down with legalizing prostitution. Maybe in 20 years we'll have sex-on-demand services. It will be just like ordering a pizza. Your girl or boy will be at your door in 30 mins or less. Ahhh. America.

I guess that's one of the reasons why I have nagging doubts about all this. Most anti-prostitution laws and ideologues seem to me like they're trying to send the prostitutes to hell, burn them alive or something
